In ancient times, people discovered that goats were feeding on evergreen bushes that supplied small red berries. Legend says that the goat minder noticed the goats were exhilarated after consuming the fruit. 

Years later, coffee plants were cultivated by farmers in Southern Arabia, known today as Yemen. Most believe that it wasn’t until the 15th century that coffee cherries were turned into coffee beans and brewed as a drink. 

Coffee grew in popularity over the next century and became a popular beverage for gatherings during the 16th century. 

As demand grew, coffee growers popped up all over the world. Java, Indonesia, Hawaii, and Brazil became the top producers throughout the 18th century. Today, top producers include Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia, and Ethiopia.

It’s no wonder why coffee has maintained its high place in society. Its energizing effect and health benefits continue to inspire coffee fans every day. 

While there are hundreds more varieties and growers than when coffee first came into the limelight, the beverage has maintained its original qualities.
